About

Bouldering is rock climbing from a low height above foam mats, instead of with a harness and rope. It’s a very accessible sport, where everyone climbs together on the same walls. Sheffield Medics Bouldering (SMB) is our small and friendly club that’s open to all students. Most of us joined SMB as rock climbing beginners, but we have an eclectic mix of abilities and boast some of the best climbers in the university.

We meet in Broomhill on Sundays at 16:30 and lift-share down to The Climbing Works, which is one of the largest indoor bouldering walls in Europe. As part of SMB, you’ll get our club member discount on entry, guidance from our experienced members and access to our large stock of shoes to borrow. Afterwards we drive to the pub for a well-earned pint, some food and a game of pool.

And if you can’t do Sundays, join our Facebook group and one of our members will show you the ropes midweek. We also go climbing unofficially in small groups outdoors on real rocks. We’re a really sociable bunch and have lots of great socials throughout the year, often involving hideous fancy dress!

So come along and try something different, get fit and meet lots of new people.
