Fresher’s Fever:
Your first medsoc social, and man aren’t we going to make it a night to remember! We’ve organised a social just to kick things off, a chance to get to know your year group, your medsoc buddies (aka medic mum+dad), and students in the senior years. Watch out for icebreakers fun and games. I could tell you what they are, but what would be the fun in that – but its going to get messy! Event starts at Walkabout and continues on to Embrace – the largest nightclub in Sheffield!

Medics Fancy-Dress PubCrawl:
Without a doubt the biggest date in the Medsoc calendar- and it should be penned in on yours! Every year 1300 med students (and some nonmedics), come to The Place in truly amazing fancy dress costumes to start a huge pub crawl! Last year we saw Umpa-Lumpas, Astronauts and Ninja Turtles. We even saw a fully functioning Hogwarts express, powered by a mobility scooter, probably stolen by some final years from a blind and deaf elderly lady! Get your thinking caps on, because you wont survive med school without a fancy dress fetish!

Medics Annual Ball:
Any excuse to throw on the tux and ball dresses! And when we do it- we do it in style! Almost throughout the medical school’s history the annual ball has been held in the fantastically elegant Culter’s Hall. Expect a champagne reception, full 3 course meal, chocolate fountain, table magicians, free ball photo as a momento and one of the Embrace DJs to boogie the nightaway. (That’s plenty to wet your appetite and I probably should give any more away!)

Drink Medsoc Dry:
Possibly the messiest of our events! The society buys over £1000 worth of alcohol and mixers to make cocktails (alcoholic andnon-alcoholic), and it’s a time race to see how long it takes the society to drink it all. Just to give you an idea of how much there is to see off; last year there was the equivalent of 14 cement-mixers full of cocktails, ranging from cosmopolitans to sangria to mojitos! This event is the ideal post exam celebration.
Questions????
Q. I know how party with the best of them, but I’m not a big drinker. And from what I’ve heard before uni, I’m scared I wont have as much fun, meet as many people or get the most of my medsoc membership.
A. This is a common misconception. You don’t need to get hammered to make friends or have fun as a med student. There many socials which are specifically run to ensure we are providing a balance for all our members, and designed around the main focus of study at university. Furthermore medsoc membership gets you a lot more than amazing discounted socials, and much more that you will discover in the near future.
Q. If I am not a medsoc member, or not studying medicine can I attend these events.
A. Some of smaller more exclusive events may be restricted to medsoc members only. For the bigger events non-medics and non-medsoc members are welcome, but will have to pay more for entrance tickets.
