Our welfare support extends to all student doctors, across all phases, irrespective of sex, culture, ethnic background, sexual orientation, disability, dyslexia age or religious beliefs. If you are a prospective student and have specific welfare concerns then please don't hesitate to email the address provided below.
Many medics struggle with aspects of the course and study at university, however many of them will not seek help as they don't want to admit they are struggling to others. The welfare team are here as people who have been through a lot of the stuff you are going through right now, from starting uni and moving away from home, to struggling with SSCs and the exams, to the fear of starting placement and aspects of placement such as death and serious disability. We have been through it all and are therefore in a prime position to help others with such problems. There is no shame in asking for help at all, as that help you receive may one day make you a better doctor, as part the the duties of a doctor is knowing when to ask for help from someone more senior than yourself.
If you’re finding it difficult to cope at the moment and need some help, please get in touch by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . If you don't want to seek help from other medics, then please talk to someone else from the university, there is a huge welfare network out there in the university and union. Nightline is an anonymous, confidential, non-judgmental listening and information service run by students, for students, and is there for you from 8pm until 8am seven days a week to listen on 0114 222 8787 or if you're more comfortable writing things down then you can contact the email service This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
